October 21, 2008 - GE Healthcare is showing one of its compact ultrasound systems, the LOGIQ e Breakthrough 2009, an ultrasound system that combines real-time clinical images and control capabilities on the same touchscreen user interface, at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) annual meeting, October 20-22 in Orlando, Florida.

The peripheral touchscreen monitor on an articulating arm provides clinicians with flexibility in their viewing angle for procedures. The touchscreen’s intuitive and simplified user interface has fewer controls, designed to make it easy to use. The benefits include:

· Helping clinicians focus less on controls to optimize images, and focus more on patients.
· Making training easier, decreasing the learning curve on the system, especially for new users.
· Providing a flat, touchscreen surface that is easy to clean and disinfect.
· Improving clinical workflow.

“The LOGIQ e touchscreen controls are intuitively obvious,” said Jeffrey Swenson, M.D., professor and director of anesthesia for the orthopedic center at the University of Utah. “This makes it user friendly, even for new ultrasound users and for support staff to assist during the procedure. I think it's easier to focus on the patient and the image. There's less distraction with the controls--you don't have to be looking back and forth.”
