Radiation Oncology

Radiation oncology is a medical specialty that uses radiation therapy to treat cancer. The radiation therapy channel covers all aspects of radiation oncology technology. Radiation therapy includes linear accelerators (LINAC), proton therapy, brachytherapy, image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), focused ultrasound, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), treatment planning systems and tomotherapy.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is fully operating and continues to lead, conduct and support cancer research across the nation to advance scientific knowledge and help all people live longer, healthier lives, according to an editorial by Janet Eary, M.D., and Lalitha Shankar, M.D., Ph.D., published today in the journal Radiology: Imaging Cancer.
