Digital radiography (DR), picture archive and communications system (PACS) and voice recognition together provide image acquisition-to-reporting solution

Agfa DX-D 100

April 10, 2013 — The U.S. Navy has awarded Agfa Healthcare a contract to upgrade more than 30 ships in the U.S. Navy fleet to the latest digital radiography (DR) solutions with Agfa Healthcare's DX-D 400, DX-D 100 and other systems. To be used along with Agfa Healthcare's Impax picture archive and communications system (PACS) and TalkStation voice recognition system for diagnostic reporting, this end-to end solution will provide the Navy with improved, efficient workflow from image acquisition to study reporting.

The comprehensive system will enable streamlined workflow from image acquisition to image interpretation by the radiologists using Impax PACS at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Walter Reed uses the Impax PACS and TalkStation for dictation and reporting and will now be able to send and receive full reports as well complete patient records, further streamlining the reporting process by allowing radiologists to easily dictate, edit, code and sign reports within minutes.

"After a thorough analysis of imaging vendors over the past 12 months, the Navy came to the conclusion that the Agfa Healthcare systems provided the most complete solution and offer an unmatched value proposition in terms of ease-of-use, image quality and streamlined workflow,” said Tim Artz, global government accounts director, Agfa Healthcare. “During the last 14 years Agfa Healthcare has proven to be a very reliable partner to the Navy, supporting their mission for critical imaging technology on ships around the world.”

Agfa Healthcare's solution includes the DX-D 100, a highly maneuverable DR unit that enables high-quality radiology exams to be efficiently performed in mobile environments, including intensive care units (ICU), emergency departments, operating rooms or bedsides. The DX-D 400 is a floor mounted X-ray suite that offers state-of-the-art imaging technology at an affordable cost — without compromising functionality or performance. The DX-D 100 and DX-D 400 include Agfa Healthcare's Musica2 image processing software. The standard NX user interface used across the entire spectrum of CR and DR solutions provides a smooth transition to DR technology.
