November 25, 2013 — CurveBeam LLC launched CurveBeam Europe Ltd., its European headquarters based in London. The London office will serve as an operations and support hub for CurveBeam's activities on the continent selling the pedCAT system. It provides weight-bearing, 3-D computed tomography (CT) imaging of the foot and ankle region. With a 4-foot by 5-foot footprint, the pedCAT is a compact office solution for CT imaging. This device can scan a single foot or both feet in less than a minute with minimal levels of radiation.
The pedCAT received its CE marking in January 2013. The pedCAT was acquired by Krankenhaus Rummelsberg in Schwarzenbruck, Germany soon after, and is utilized by Dr. Martinus Richter, a specialist in foot and ankle surgery.
A pedCAT was also added to the imaging suite at The Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in Stanmore, United Kingdom, where it is primarily utilized by Andy Goldberg, M.D., and Dishan Singh, M.D.
In Germany, the clinic has successfully received reimbursement for pedCAT scans using existing codes for X-ray examinations and comparable CT diagnostic evaluations because a single pedCAT scan replaces up to 12 X-ray exams and a possible CT scan. In addition, the pedCAT exposes the patient to minimal radiation and provides for an evaluation under true weight bearing conditions with uniform positioning.
PTM-Network Services Ltd. partnered with CurveBeam to provide exclusive distribution for the pedCAT in Germany and the surrounding regions. Guy Long will serve as director of CurveBeam's European operations.
