May 20, 2008 - As reimbursements have impacted the bottom line of surgery centers in the U.S., profitability has been attacked, making reprocessing a more attractive option, according to MEDISISS, a medical device reprocessing company that primarily serves outpatient facilities.

MEDISISS featured its reprocessing services at ASCs 2008 last week.

The company said reprocessing offers facilities a tool to enhance profitability while maintaining quality.

Orthopedic centers, multispecialty surgery centers, GI centers and other surgical centers all benefit from reprocessing single-use devices, which can drive savings, according to the company.

MEDISISS said since orthopedic procedures utilize the largest number of single-use devices, the largest savings come from reprocessing such expensive items as: ablation electrodes rthroscopic abraders, arthroscopic shavers, carpal tunnel release blades, drill bits, burs, saw blades, rasps, reamers, tourniquets, finger traps and arthroscopic trocars.

General, ENT, podiatry and GI procedures also use a large number of single-use devices, according to the company, including laparoscopic trocards, harmonic scalpels and other devices.

MEDISISS is an FDA compliant company, offering decontamination, refurbishing, testing, packaging and sterilization services.
