January 21, 2008 - NEXCORE Technology Inc. has licensed the intellectual property rights for the development of a new fluid management system for use during endoscopic surgery.
The company said the new system provides significantly greater control over the inflow/outflow of fluids during a procedure. NEXCORE is designing and developing the new system and will organize testing and FDA approval.
Company representatives said the new system maintains a constant preset cavity pressure during operations, regardless of how the flow rate of the irrigational fluid is varied allowing for optimal visualization.
Intravasation is fluid that is absorbed into the blood vessels during a procedure, which can cause severe injury, or even death, if not properly monitored.
The new system can be used in any endoscopic surgery. It distends the body tissue cavity by utilizing continuous flow irrigation. The new invention increases surgical efficiency, effectiveness and safety by maintaining a constant pressure on the mechanical distension of the cavity and increases and maintains visibility for the surgeon.
NEXCORE plans to introduce the system in late 2008.
