September 14, 2009 – Adding a new ultrasound platform to its Women’s Imaging line of products, Siemens Healthcare introduces the ACUSON S2000 ultrasound system – Women’s Imaging at the 19th World Congress on Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) in Hamburg, Germany.

At booth No. 201, the company demonstrates how 3D/4D imaging solution and knowledge-based applications enhance the quality of care and speed up workflows in high-risk fetal imaging, obstetrics and gynecology, as well as breast imaging.

The ACUSON S2000 ultrasound system – Women’s Imaging represents the pinnacle of innovative technologies and workflow-enhancing clinical applications, which dramatically improve the efficiency and quality of ultrasound exams. Latest acoustic technologies deliver a powerful system optimized for 2D, Doppler and 3D/4D imaging for the most demanding requirements in maternal-fetal medicine, OB/GYN and breast applications, including automated breast volume scanning. The system features unsurpassed image quality through 3D Dynamic TCE tissue contrast enhancement technology, which sharpens borders and reduces speckle and noise in the entire volume – rather than in reconstructed “slices” only – to greatly improve subtle tissue differentiation for enhanced diagnostic confidence. Anatomic border definition and tissue contrast is additionally improved through Advanced SieClear™ spatial compounding and electronic beam steering, which rapidly acquires overlapping images from different view angles.

One of the highlights to the ACUSON S2000 system – Women’s Imaging includes syngo Auto OB measurements, a clinical tool that automates routine biometry measurements of the fetus. The application also addresses the challenges related to user-dependence and variability, as well as consistency and reproducibility in fetal biometry. Measurements are automatically saved into the patient’s report and include the biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), femur length (FL), crown rump length (CRL) and the humerus length (HL).

The ACUSON S2000 system – Women’s Imaging also features applications for fetal echocardiography. syngo Vector Velocity Imaging (VVI) technology provides physicians with a tool for the assessment of global and regional myocardial muscle and motion mechanics. Specially designed to analyze the delicate cardiac anatomy of the fetus, the application offers clinically valuable visual and quantitative data output, including velocity, strain, strain rate, ejection fraction and volume. In addition, the new system features Fetal Heart STIC (spatio-temporal image correlation) imaging, which captures data over multiple heart cycles and creates a 3D fetal heart volume, allowing sonographers to view the fetal heart in multiple planes.

The fourSight technology package for the ACUSON S2000 system – Women’s Imaging aims to enhance diagnostic confidence by offering comprehensive 3D/4D data acquisition, data rendering and post processing including multislice, thick slice imaging and inversion mode. 3-scape real-time 3D imaging offers industry-leading 3D/4D acquisition and multiplanar visualization. Real-time capture and display of grayscale and power Doppler volumes using both high resolution 2D and fourSight 4D transducer technology further enhance the solution. The system also includes industry-exclusive Amnioscopic Rendering, an advanced surface rendering tool which provides photo-realistic images of the fetus – a valuable tool to enhance maternal-fetal bonding.

The ACUSON S2000 system – Women’s Imaging is open to integrate automated breast volume scanning (ABVS). This configuration features an innovative, mobile in-suite design combining the advanced ACUSON S2000 system – Women’s Imaging with a transducer specifically designed for automated ultrasound breast volume imaging. Quickly acquiring full-field sonographic volumes for comprehensive review and diagnosis of the breast, it streamlines workflow and reduces operator dependence and variability. The advanced 3D technology enables the intuitive, anatomical coronal plane, not available using conventional ultrasound. This view provides a more understandable representation of the global anatomy and architecture of the breast. Semi-automated reporting and comprehensive BI-RADS reporting capabilities further enhance the clinical workflow. To further optimize high-volume patient breast care, the system also supports innovative breast imaging applications, such as fatty tissue and eSie Touch elasticity imaging.

The Siemens workflow solution for OB/GYN also encompasses the ACUSON X300 ultrasound system, Premium Edition (PE) – Women’s Imaging. Compact, highly portable, it offers applications that were migrated from the high-end performance S Class into the X Class product series to support obstetrics, gynecological and breast imaging. The fourSight volume imaging technology provides a 3D/4D solution in addition to delivering streamlined workflow and advanced acquisition, data rendering and post-processing functionality for all examinations, including 2D and Doppler. The system also supports syngo Auto OB measurements addressing the workflow requirements of fetal biometry measurements. The ACUSON X300 PE – Women’s Imaging accommodates the needs of any clinical environment – from private practices to busy hospital settings.
