Agreement offers increased savings to health organizations nationwide for new generation imaging in nuclear medicine: digital SPECT/CT

November 20, 2020 — Spectrum Dynamics Medical, a leading innovator in diagnostic imaging solutions, announces that its VERITON-CT digital SPECT/CT with personalized scans has received a pediatric program contract from Vizient, Inc., a member-driven healthcare performance improvement company in the U.S.

The 3-D digital hybrid SPECT/CT scanner is unlike any other ring-shaped gantry, with a 360° CZT 12-detector design that automatically moves close to the patient’s body, following its shape. That 360° wraparound helps improve scans of children because the detectors can get within millimeters of kids’ smaller frames, unlike traditional scanners with detectors at a fixed diameter. The scanner helps young patients feel comfortable with the procedure: it’s faster than the traditional analog 180o dual head camera.

Because the digital detectors snugly surround the patient to sense maximum photons, the high-definition images require a lower injected dose of the radiopharmaceutical than non-digital scanner technology. The VERITON-CT scans from head to toes in 3D hybrid mode, providing detailed information in a single scanning session. The whole process is easier on the patient, with less need for extra views and shortened exam times. Plus, the imaging efficiency of a hybrid scanner provides both physiologic and pathologic information.

“VERITON-CT is pushing medical imaging to a new level of accuracy that equates to more confident diagnoses,” said Jim Haisler, Vice President of Global Commercial Operations for Spectrum Dynamics. “At a time when precise images are indispensable for monitoring the lungs and other organs of people with COVID-19, our contract with Vizient builds on our success helping U.S. hospitals and diagnostic centers adopt essential technology to improve testing efficiency and give patients more reassuring results.”

Vizient’s diverse membership and customer base includes academic medical centers, pediatric facilities, community hospitals, integrated health delivery networks and non-acute health care providers and represents more than $100 billion in annual purchasing volume.

“Pediatric care providers are especially interested in VERITON-CT because of its ring-shaped design and ability to scan in close, even around the smallest patients’ bodies, for better image quality. That’s something you can’t do with a standard scanner with fixed detectors,” Haisler said. “With the Vizient agreement, healthcare providers can bring these innovations to more kids and teens.”
